You get to see what everyone else on the Exchange is promoting, and how they're promoting it
You can find great information, usually for free
Many of the people using them are online marketers too, so if your product targets them you're laughing!
You can build your credits while doing other things like listening to audio training, reading, or watching TV
When looking for a Traffic Exchange
Look for one with a good surf:credit ratio - so you have to view less pages to earn credits
Look for one with a low surf timer - 30 seconds can seem an age to be viewing some of the pages you see. Aim for ones with 20 seconds or less
Look for one that targets your market - relevancy to the viewer matters a lot
Look for a referral scheme that offers free credits for each referral
Your Traffic Exchange Page
Must be brief - you only have 10-30 seconds to interest your viewer, and they might only scan it very quickly
Must be exciting - it has to offer something the viewer wants there and then
Must have a Call to Action - you need the viewer to give an email address, or click a link to your site
Disadvantages of Using Traffic Exchanges
Your viewers may not be part of your target market - fortunately they are mine, fellow online business builders mainly.
Unless you have a paid account, you have to view pages to build credits so your page can be seen by others
People viewing your page may not be paying much attention
You can spend a long time building credits when you could be building your business
Unless you have an ad tracker (I use this one) you don't know which ones are effective
You can't really do much else on your computer while surfing their pages
